About

The exhibition "Microbe Detectives" offers insights into the research conducted by the Pathogen Ecology group in the field of microbial ecology. At its core is the question of how microbes interact with each other, their environment, and humans, as well as how researchers study this world that remains invisible to the naked eye. The exhibition illustrates how scientific knowledge is generated: through observation, clue-gathering, experimentation, and the exchange of knowledge. Using detective work as a metaphor, research is conveyed as a dynamic process driven by curiosity, creativity, and collaboration.

Challenge

At the booth, you become microbe detectives yourselves. You can explore the exhibition according to your own interests and gain different insights into the research process across various stations. Interactive elements invite hands-on participation: a detailed hidden-object illustration (Wimmelbild) where microbial habitats can be explored, as well as an interactive wall with information flaps that provide a deeper look into research methods. Additional stations offer exclusive glimpses into everyday research life and the opportunity to talk directly with the scientists. Through playful, visual, and tactile approaches, the exhibition invites you to join researchers in tracking down clues in the microbial world.
