About

With this short film, you’ll discover CEPHALOPOD — a new framework that brings together the many different ways we observe plankton, from genetic sequencing to imaging and environmental monitoring, and generates reliable maps, making the invisible foundations of ocean life visible.

The goals of CEPHALOPOD are simple but ambitious:
> Make marine plankton biodiversity data more consistent and comparable
> Use automated machine learning to predict plankton distribution across space and time
> Foster collaboration across projects, disciplines, and countries
> Provide a foundation for better monitoring of our ocean ecosystems

CEPHALOPOD is developed as part of Blue-Cloud 2026 — a European initiative that builds a federated ecosystem for FAIR and open marine data, supporting both research and the sustainable blue economy.
