About

This infographic illustrates the anatomy and injury mechanisms of the canine knee joint, focusing on the rupture of the cranial cruciate ligament (CCL). The central 3D view of the joint highlights the torn ligament in red, while sectional diagrams provide detailed perspectives of femur and tibia structures in both normal and injured states. The visual comparison shows how a rupture affects joint stability, with additional diagrams explaining tibial rotation in cases of isolated cruciate ligament rupture and combined cruciate and collateral ligament injuries. The infographic serves to clarify both the structural relationships within the joint and the biomechanical consequences of ligament damage.

About

These interactive visualizations on the topic of evolutionary medicine are bringing biological mechanisms and evolutionary concepts to life in medical contexts and are used in combination with other teaching activities at Master and Bachelor level at ETH and is free to use by other teaching institutions.

Research Question

How can concepts about evolutionary medicine, such as antibiotic resistance and virulence, be conveyed in a more engaging and understandable way?

Medium & Form Choice

An interactive website enables learners to control the pace at which they absorb information, while incorporating gamified interactions to encourage engagement with the content.

Design Principles

Through progressive disclosure and strong metaphors, the content is made more accessible to learners, providing a framework for understanding future content related to the topic.
